Lower elementary
Lower elementary 6–8-year-olds
- At Penfield Academy, our Elementary Program builds upon the Montessori foundation of independence, inquiry, and respect, while preparing children to think critically about their role in a changing world. Rooted in Montessori philosophy, our approach emphasizes freedom with responsibility, purposeful work, and the development of compassion and curiosity.
- Our classrooms extend into the natural world, where children explore the creek ecosystem, gardens, and surrounding green spaces as living laboratories. Here, they observe the interconnectedness of all living things and engage in hands-on inquiry that reflects the values of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially Quality Education (SDG 4), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Climate Action (SDG 13). Through these experiences, learners begin to understand how local actions contribute to global sustainability and environmental stewardship.
- The right to play remains central to our philosophy, as we believe play fuels curiosity, creativity, and joy in discovery. Whether experimenting in the garden, exploring the creek, or building in the MakerField, play provides opportunities to connect imagination with learning.
- Our STEAM and RoboThink programs further enhance this vision, bridging science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics with hands-on innovation. Through design challenges, robotics, and collaborative projects, students explore sustainable solutions to real-world problems, linking innovation with empathy, and technology with care for the planet.
- At Penfield Academy, education is both grounded and visionary. We nurture capable, compassionate, and globally minded learners who recognize their connection to the Earth, their community, and the shared responsibility of creating a sustainable future.
